I know, I know, I’m not American…but I do love their word for ‘high street chemist-related shops’! Although I have a penchant for OPI, I do still love my affordable drugstore nail polishes. I’m going to talk you through 5 of my favourites, all from different brands – obviously, I have multiple favourite shades from each brand, but I wanted to give you a good spread and variety!
I know ELF isn’t a UK drugstore brand (it’s available online) but it is available in US drugstores, so it’s all good!
MUA Nail Varnish in Shade 2
I feel like I constantly rave about MUA Cosmetics, but its not without good reason! This nail polish was just £1 from Superdrug, and it works like a charm. It needs a good couple of coats but for the price, that’s fine by me! I love that it is a true black – so many black polishes have a bit of shimmer or different coloured tone to them, but this is just a pure black. It’s quite strong smelling, but that is to be expected from a nail polish, so it doesn’t really bother me too much. I just wish that MUA was available everywhere!
Beauty UK Shatter Polish in Glam Rock
I have to admit that I’m kind of over the shatter polish trend, but this Beauty UK Shatter Polish is probably the exception to that rule – I love the fact that it is so shimmery but still works as an awesome crackle polish. I love wearing it with black or pink underneath – the name, Glam Rock, is also so fitting. This nail polish retails for £2.99, which is much cheaper than most other shatter polishes. It’s easy to skip over the Beauty UK cosmetics stand in Superdrug, but next time you’re in there make sure you stop by – I’ve had some cracking purchases from them (no pun intended!)
Barry M Nail Paint in Blue Glitter
This is probably my favourite nail polish of all time – I’ve mentioned it so many times in my YouTube videos! I’m a big Barry M fan as it is, but this is the best of the best for me. The glitter is as stunning on the nails as it is in the bottle – I get so many compliments every time I wear it! I would advise wearing a top coat though as the texture might irritate some people after a while. I remember that I bought this in Superdrug in Edinburgh last summer, which was also the first time I was recognised by someone for being on YouTube! It retails for £2.99.
No.7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour in Betty Blues
For Christmas last year, I received a gorgeous little gift set of No.7 nail polishes from my mum, and this is my favourite from the set! It’s a very, very dark blue with lighter blue specks throughout. The application of it is really smooth and easy, and the brush is just the right size to get a good coverage on the nail with just one or two swipes. The only downside is that it retails for £7, which is much more expensive than most drugstore brands. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful shade that I’m very glad to own!
ELF Nail Polish in Metal Madness
I’m a complete sucker for anything with the word ‘metal’ in it when it comes to cosmetics (and music, for that matter!) – I love the grunge feel of this polish and it looks amazing on the nails too. This is from ELF’s £1.50 line and it is worth double or even triple that. You get a very generous amount of product and the polish doesn’t chip within 5 minutes of wearing it either. I really wish ELF was sold in UK drugstores, just for ease – although, for the sake of the UK’s beauty junkies’ wallets, it’s probably a good thing!
