Review: ghd Gold Series Max Styler

You might think it’s a little crazy for someone who rarely straightens their hair to invest in a pair of ghd straighteners…but I guess that’s me all round! Let me explain. I have generally very straight hair, but despite it’s straightness it is quite voluminous and thick. I don’t need extra help for straightening but rather for flattening (not entirely, but just controlling the volume). Hence, I decided to buy my first ghd styler – the ghd Gold Series Max Styler.

I have tried the slimmer ghd straighteners before and they’re just not robust enough to deal with my mane – that’s just how I could describe it some days! (P.s. – I know I am writing ‘ghd’ instead of ‘GHD’, which is because they use lower case letters on their website. I’m a complete grammar freak so I felt the need to point that out!)

I decided to take some ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos so you can see how effective they are at taming your tresses.

I thoroughly apologise for the hideousness of the photos – I wasn’t looking my best this morning!

As you can see, my hair looks so much sleeker afterwards – exactly what I want from a straightener/styler. I also love the fact that it has special features, such as turning off automatically after 30 minutes if not used. I’m so paranoid about leaving heated appliances on, so this puts my mind at rest!

The price of the Gold Max Styler varies from place to place, so I will quote the ghd website; at present, they have an RRP of £119 but are currently on sale for £109. I’m not usually one to splash out on expensive items, but I will say that I was more than happy to pay for these straighteners – they’re undoubtedly the best I’ve ever used, and know from the experiences of others that they truly last. Look at it as an investment…in your hair. Surely one of the best kinds, no?!

Let me answer the question. On my pair… they usally flicker when the plates have reached full temperature. So if it flickers, its usually a good thing. Just check the manual to make sure, but this is what my model does.
