I love statement clothing, especially in the winter. There’s something so inspiring about just going for it with an outfit, and I’ve been adding statement pieces into my wardrobe for a few years now. There are SO many ways to do this – from sequin party dresses (like these fabulous ones from Warehouse* – seriously, I’m in love with everything from the brand right now) and sparkly blazers to bold faux fur coats and killer boots, this time of year is just perfect for experimenting with your style and trying something new.
As temperatures have well and truly plummeted this week, I thought it was the ideal time to chat about statement jumpers and how to style them up. The one I’ve featured in this post is an awesome mint green and black chevron number, as I’m completely obsessed with this print (I think it’s something to do with my love of Twin Peaks) but you could just as easily replace it with something metallic, sequinned or even neon – I know this is a huge trend for Autumn/Winter too!

Let The Jumper Do The Talking
When I want one particular piece to be the focal point of my outfit, I try not to overcrowd the rest of the look. That means I’ll usually steer clear of any other prints that could take the shine off my statement clothing item (I’m all for print and colour clashes but it depends on your priority for the overall look) and I’ll usually stick with fairly neutral colours too.
This skirt has become one of my favourite pieces to wear alongside a statement jumper, as it has just enough going on to look stylish – like the button down front – but doesn’t draw the eye away from the main event. I usually like to wear sheer tights with it but the weather is just so cold at the moment, so I had to go for a higher denier look.
A statement jumper is all well and good, but you don’t want to be freezing cold – that’s where layering comes in! One of my favourite ways to wear a bold jumper is over a bodycon dress. It means you get that extra layer underneath to help keep you snug, and it makes your wardrobe instantly more versatile as you’ve suddenly got a whole new skirt collection you didn’t realise you had!
I’m also a big fan of pairing faux fur coats and jackets with statement jumpers. Although not shown in these photos, I was wearing a white faux fur coat to complete the outfit which worked perfectly! What I love about it is that it didn’t take away from the jumper in colour or print, but the texture added a little extra edge to the whole ensemble. And I’m not going to lie, I loved the warmth too!
Try Something A Little Different
A statement piece only feels like something special if you’re pushing the boundaries of your own style. I always encourage people to take things that catch their eye into the changing rooms, even if they don’t initially think it’s very them – I find those are the pieces I end up loving the most! There are so many awesome jumper designs around at the moment that it’s totally worth trying something on that sparks your interest, and build your look from there.
It’s amazing how versatile a statement jumper can be, too! Pair it with a sparkly skirt (or bodycon dress, as per my previous point) and heels, and you have yourself a party outfit. Layer the same jumper up with a cosy coat, scarf and boots and you’re ready for a walk in the park and you’ll look perfectly stylish when you head for a coffee to warm up afterwards too.
Will you be trying out a statement jumper this winter?
