We all have those outfits that do us proud time and time again – it might be that they just work for multiple occasions, make us feel flippin’ awesome and/or never really go out of style. I’ve noticed that over the past couple of years, there are certain pieces that I pop into my suitcase almost every time I jet off on a new adventure! Given that summer holiday season is in full swing, I wanted to talk you through a few of these holiday fashion staples and explain why they’re here to stay within my 2018 wardrobe.
The Tropical Playsuit
I think it’s fair to say that I am OBSESSED with this tropical playsuit from Nasty Gal. I wore it to death on our honeymoon, including here at the Grand Canyon and in the photo below, taken at Mission Beach in San Diego. I also packed it when I headed to Marbella for a hen do last month, and I’ll be taking it to Turkey next week too – it’s going to be one well-travelled piece of clothing! I feel that tropical prints are a fail-safe option for summer 2018, and the playsuit resurgence has definitely not gone unnoticed either. It makes for an easy, chilled out style choice when your main objective is to relax and take in your destination.
Even just taking a quick look around the usual online clothing stops, there are more tropical print items than you could shake a palm leaf at, from playsuits and jumpsuits to co-ord sets and flared leg trousers. It’s a straightforward way to bring a little sunshine to your look without having to opt for a super bright colour block, if that’s not necessarily your thing. I’m already excited to wear this style staple again in a few days! If you’re wondering, the sunglasses you can see here are one of my favourite pairs from River Island (who are KILLING IT with their sunnies this year!).
The Red Polka Dot Dress
Polka dots are massive right now (literally massive, at times), which is perhaps the style understatement of the century. I actually jumped on this trend just over a year ago, before literally everything was covered in this classic print – just before I headed to Vegas in 2017 I picked up this cute little red polka dot dress from H&M (I’ve linked a super similar one from ASOS) and haven’t looked back since! I ended up wearing it multiple times on that trip, and then again on our honeymoon in Palm Springs this year. It felt like the perfect outfit choice to wear to a classic American diner, especially when paired with these fabulous River Island sunglasses.
It’s not only super comfy with it’s timeless wrap style, but the material is mega lightweight and ideal for the warm weather. I think it’s safe to say that spots and polka dots on almost every item of clothing you can imagine are here to stay for summer 2018, and I’ve also been enjoying trying out different colour combinations too – stay tuned for an upcoming post about a certain pair of shorts I’ve been totally obsessed with!
The Slogan Tee
My third and final fashion staple for summer 2018 has got to be the slogan tee. They’ve been in and out of style since I can remember, and are back with a vengeance this year! One that you might have spotted on my Instagram page is this absolute beauty from the Rock On Ruby collaboration with Bespoke Bride, which I couldn’t resist picking up to wear on our honeymoon! This photo was taken around Fremont Street in downtown Vegas, and I got so many lovely comments from people asking if we’d just got married…yes, yes we had!
I feel like there’s a slogan t-shirt for everyone, and so many ways to wear them too. Tucked into shorts, peeking out of a paper bag waist skirt, tied into a knot like I did in Vegas…the possibilities are endless. I’m also tempted to start customising tees like I did back in the day, as a couple of simple cuts or embellishments can totally transform a standard shirt into something you’ll want to wear again and again. One of my current favourite pieces is a Guns n Roses tee with a slashed neckline (excuse the pun) that I keep coming back to, as it looks super effective – and I love GnR!
Let me know which fashion staples you’re loving for 2018, I’d love to know!
