If you can’t get enough 90s nostalgia in your life, you are going to LOVE this outfit post! I’m a true child of the 1990s (it was the year I was born) and I have ridiculously fond memories of the decade’s fashion trends. We’ve certainly seen revivals of a few of these key styles in recent years, and there are a couple that I’m particularly enjoying right now…
Sunglasses: Claire’s (similar)
On Saturday, Tiz and I headed towards the Deansgate side of Manchester city centre for a spot of brunch and an outfit shoot. We landed on a spot near to the Cathedral and set to work – let’s start by taking a look at the main feature of this look. It’s time to bring back the slogan tee!
Not only was the slogan tee a late 90s – early 00s style essential, but the GRL PWR wording took me right back to my Spice Girls obsession phase (did it ever really end? For any of us?). The red on white vibe is something we’re seeing all over the place right now, and newly-launched Manchester-based brand LOTD did a sterling job with this piece. Expect to see much more of the label here on my blog, and over on my Instagram page too.
The question of how to style a slogan tee – or any tee for that matter – is one I find myself pondering a little longer than you might expect. I find my body shape doesn’t always suit the ‘jeans and t-shirt’ look, so I tend to think outside the box when it comes to this style staple.
This silver skirt took me right back to the late 90s, when the anticipation of the millennium and a distinct focus on the space-age theme led to many-a-metallic fashion piece appearing on runways and high streets. I actually picked this up in H&M, and felt the paperbag waist gave it a 2017 update. I’m having a major metallics moment right now, and there was no way I was leaving this behind on the hanger.
I naturally paired it with my favourite Las Vegas purchase, these silver glitter ‘wink wink’ shoes, and a pair of round sunglasses (another 90s staple) I actually got from Claire’s a couple of years ago. I completed everything with my trusty River Island satchel, though if I’d had a silver bag handy there’s little doubt I’d have gone the whole hog and thrown that on my shoulder!
How are you feeling about the slogan tee revival? Any that you’re eyeing up, or firmly steering clear of?
