Do Control Pants / Slimming Shorts Work?

I recently bought a gorgeous dress from ASOS.com, and whilst it fits perfectly I was ever-so-slightly conscious of any small lumps and bumps – due to the fact that it is virtually skin tight at the skirt! Even though I’m a UK Size 8-10, I decided to try something a little different for me – control pants! To be more precise, I actually went for a pair of slimming shorts – mine were from Primark (more on that later!)

When it comes to slimming shorts, there are, of course, variables: your original size and shape, the type of control pants you choose and their control ‘factor’ all make a difference (I feel like I’m back in high school writing up a science experiment!). I will describe my personal experience with this particular type of control pants – obviously, experiences will differ from person-to-person, but hopefully I can give you an insight!

Now, I know that Primark probably isn’t the most idea place to buy something like this – but, for my personal shape, I don’t need a huge amount of help from the control pants, so it seemed wise to go for a budget brand. In the changing rooms, I tried on an alternative pair before these – a full-torso pair of control pants. I opted for the slimming shorts in the end as they sucked me in sufficiently. And – they were only £5!

So, could they be any good for that price? As always, I’m going to be completely honest – they did a good job, but not an excellent one. They were quite uncomfortable – but it could easily be argued that that is to be expected. Under my dress, although they did create a nice silhouette, I’m not convinced that the difference was huge.

The ‘shorts’ part ended up being quite annoying – instead of sitting on the thigh, they rode up to the crotch which was uncomfortable. One positive point was that they lived up to their claim of being ‘firm’ – the material was sturdy and felt the part to touch.

I have seen control pants/slimming shorts work nicely on other people, but for me personally, they haven’t been life changing. As I’ve mentioned, factors like other brands of control pants and different body shapes than mine could make a big difference, so don’t panic if you’re unsure about whether to invest. My main advice would be: try before you buy, and even take along the outfit you’re intending to wear the control pants with when you try them on.

Good luck, and let me know in the comments if you’ve had any experience with control pants or slimming shorts.

Stay Creative,

The M&S ones are ment to be brilliant, even Gok Wan (From How To Look Good Naked) uses them on his models, but I heard they’re around £30. I hate the Primark ones, I bought them last year but for my top half and I felt like I was wearing one of those Victorian dresses, I couldn’t breathe at all and after 2 minutes, I took it off, not caring if there was bumps everywhere XD

I kind of felt like that by the end of the night – it wasn’t comfortable at all! x

I was trying to buy myself some control pants, I don’t need them, but I got a gorgeous maxi dress which ever so slightly rests on the ‘bulges’ I don’t think it’s something anyone but me will notice, but you know.
Anyhow, I was going to pick up a pair for about £7 from Matalan, but they wouldn’t let me try them on! Seriously, why would I buy something like that without knowing that they fit and don’t make me bulge worse in worse areas?!

    Is this not ridiculous? x

That seriously is ridiculous!! I would have had a look of disgust on my face!

I know what you mean about no one else noticing, but you just wanting them to feel better – same here! xxx

I don’t have control pants, but I have bought control leggings from Peacocks. They’re amazing and won’t wear any other kind! Only £6.

Fun to read about those kind of pants, lol 🙂 Thanks for the review 😉 A pity for you that they weren’t so special but luckily they weren’t pricy so that’s good for the quality, lol 😉
