It’s no secret that I’m a huge monochrome fan – I’d say the majority of my wardrobe revolves around black and white block colours, stripes and prints. When the Intu Trafford Centre got in touch about styling up one of their key Spring/Summer 16 trends for their #IntuFashion campaign (one of which was my beloved monochrome) I simply couldn’t resist.
If you visited the centre earlier this month you may have spotted their gorgeous Style Garden, inspired by the new and upcoming seasons. You may have even glimpsed one of their fabulous fashion shows (or seen yours truly on the big screen – more on that in a moment!). I am in love with most of their key trends, including nautical stripes and floral prints, but for this post I wanted to focus on that classic mono style.
Let’s talk about the key feature of this outfit, and the piece I picked up at the Intu Trafford Centre – this incredible striped bardot-style dress from River Island. If I had to design my perfect spring/summer dress, this would be it! The print is gorgeous, the style of the skirt section is flattering and wonderfully on-trend and the top of the dress is to die for. Paired with my red lipstick I felt like I’d stepped out of a different era – the only thing missing from the look was a beehive hairdo!
The dress was an outstanding £30 – yes, thirty English pounds! In my book that is a true bargain – I had SO many items to choose from at the centre but this one totally screamed out to me. What do you think?
I styled it up with a couple of my existing wardrobe pieces, including these strappy platform sandals (similar) and this divine white blazer from Boohoo. The sunglasses were from Claire’s a year or so ago, but I loved that they matched both the aesthetic of the look and the colour scheme, too.
But back to the dress (can you tell I love it?)! The material is both stretchy and sturdy, which is again wonderfully surprising from an item that was so reasonably priced. The sleeves are also quite forgiving, meaning you can wear them a little lower down like I did or pull them up a little further around your shoulders.
I’d love to know which trends you’re looking forward to wearing this Spring/Summer 16 season – do you favour monochrome like me or love to add an extra splash of colour into your wardrobe? Let me know!
Now, earlier I mentioned that you may have spotted me on the big screen in the Intu Trafford Centre! A few weeks ago I filmed a fashion feature with the lovely Jemma Gofton – if you haven’t spotted it on the screen, you can watch it here on their YouTube channel!
I had the best day filming the video, and it was lovely to be reunited with Jemma again after working together a few years ago. Which look from the video did you love the most? Leave me a comment down below, or on the video!
For now, I’ll leave you with another photo of my monochrome outfit (thanks to Tiz for taking them, I had a blast twirling around and feeling like a striped unicorn)!
