Hair care reviews are some of my ultimate favourites to write, not least because I get through so much shampoo and conditioner that I could just about write one per week! Today I’m featuring the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo and matching Conditioner – they were kindly sent along to me, and are actually the first products from the brand I’ve tried out. I usually go for either colour protecting or thickening in-shower hair products, and these matched the latter criteria. I’m going to chat about each of them individually and then give you my overall verdict at the end!
Let’s begin with the shampoo. In my recent haul video, I’d shown the products and mentioned how much I adore clear shampoos. I don’t want a hair cleansing product to be creamy – that’s what the conditioner is for! I had a hunch that I’d like this product, and I was correct. The lather on the shampoo is excellent, and I found I needed far less than usual to get a good soapy suds thing going on. The scent of the shampoo is quite strong at first, but pleasant – I’m not a huge fan of shampoo/conditioner fragrances, but didn’t mind it one bit.
I also really loved the bottle! There is nothing more annoying than having to shake a shampoo bottle until your arm nearly falls off trying to get the product out, and the click-top of this Bumble and Bumble bottle was spot on. I use a lot of dry shampoo in my hair, and even washing that out was a breeze – I have tried products in the past that turn my dry shampoo into some kind of gross paste in the shower, which is no fun! I was very impressed with the shampoo, and moved swiftly on to the conditioner…
The conditioner had a stronger scent than the shampoo, which wasn’t my favourite but didn’t bother me too much at all. I used a modest amount at first, but found my hair just drank it up, so popped a little more on for good measure. I loved how lightweight the formula was – I am definitely not a fan of thick, heavy conditioners so this was a big plus point for me. I left it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing out, which I did with total ease. No sticky, goopy conditioner residue makes for a very happy Chyaz!
Touching my hair now, having gone through the blow dry process, my hair feels neither over nor under conditioned – not greasy, not dry, just right. I do think I might use a little more next time, as my locks are leaning ever so slightly more to the dry side than the greasy side, but overall I’m pretty much bang in the middle.
And as for the thickening element – wow! I have very long, heavy hair and thickening products don’t really tend to make a difference to me. With these two products, however, my roots feel lifted and my hair has body without looking fluffy or out of control. It’s actually a really luxurious feeling to have super thick yet lightweight hair. Top marks to Bumble and Bumble!
As for price – they are definitely towards the premium end of the scale. The shampoo retails for £18.50 and the conditioner is £20.50, but they really are very good products. If you’re looking to treat yourself (and your hair) then they’re definitely worth investing in – they would also make an awesome Christmas gift for the beauty lover in your life!
