I am totally aware that, at this stage, I look like a crazy Smashbox obsessive…because I pretty much am. I have another review for you today from my favourite make up brand – introducing the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit! It’s a product I hinted at in a recent Instagram picture, and I’m excited to give you a total run-down of it in this post.
Smashbox were kind enough to send this to me a week or so ago, and as soon as it landed on my doorstep I was smitten. The kit includes a palette (containing a contour shade, bronzer and highlight shade), a handy guide and a contour brush. I’ve mentioned time and time again that blush isn’t really my thing, and I much prefer to sculpt my face with contour and highlight products, so absolutely couldn’t wait to start playing around with this kit. My current duo product from Sleek has seen better days and probably needs to go to make up heaven, and I was intrigued to see whether this could take its place!
Although the accompanying guide gives you a detailed breakdown of exactly how to use the palette depending on your face shape, I decided to use the more general diagram attached to the inside of the case as an experiment. It describes a different way of contouring than I would usually do, but I was interested to see how the look would turn out. I applied the highlight shade as instructed, followed by the contour, before popping the bronzer towards my cheekbones. I was worried that it would all look a little too much on my very fair skin, but I was absolutely delighted with the outcome!
I Instagrammed this photo after using the palette, and gave a little teaser about this review going live!
It certainly had its fair share of likes, and lots of lovely comments, so I’m guessing you guys approve! If it’s the first time you’re seeing the results, what do you think of the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit’s performance? As for a couple of contour FAQs I can anticipate…I can report that the powders weren’t cakey or too fine (though they do flake a little in the pan, but it’s nothing serious or detrimental to the usage). The pigmentation was just right too! Not too full-on and definitely not lacking either. Those two things are important to me when looking for products like these, so I wanted to address them for you too!
At £35 for the three shades and a brush, I think it’s well priced – yes, it’s a high end choice but it works. I think if you’re looking to invest in a truly great contour palette this is an excellent option, and it’s fast becoming one of my ultimate make up essentials! I can imagine it retailing for far more from other luxury brands, and the brush itself is very good as its job, so overall the value side of things get a thumbs up from me.
What’s your ultimate favourite contouring product? Leave me a comment and let me know!
