Brow lovers, listen up! I have a brand new brow product review for you today – I’ll be chatting all about the Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil. The shade I’m trying out is Blonde – I am a big fan of the Smashbox Brow Tech Trio (the two powders and a wax) but hadn’t tried this new product out. When they kindly sent it to me last week I couldn’t wait to use it and give you my verdict!
The pencil is double-ended, with a very slim retractable nib at one end and a firm eyebrow brush at the other. The pencil itself is super skinny, which makes it easy to pop into your make up bag but also easy to drop (I am very clumsy and even dropped it in the haul video I first showed it in!). The packaging is typically Smashbox – black, chic and to-the-point (no pun intended…OK, a little pun intended).
The end of the product itself was really hard to photograph as it’s just so tiny! It’s all about precision though – you don’t want an eyebrow product that is chunky (unless you’re going for full-on Cara Delevingne brows, I guess). I like the control I had over the pencil whilst using it – my brows are blonde, and the overdrawn look just doesn’t work on me. I need to be quite restrictive with the amount of product I use, and I feel that was given to me with this pencil. I have to say that the technique needed is much different from using a powder, though. You have to be much lighter with your strokes, and think more carefully about exactly where you’re positioning the product. It’s all about practise, though!
After applying the product itself, I brushed out my brows (I know most people would do this first, but I always think less is more when it comes to my eyebrows, so I tend to brush them afterwards to relieve them of any unnecessary excess product).
I have to say that the brush was probably the best brow one I’ve ever used – it was firm, effective and actually gave a proper shape to my eyebrows. I felt like it forced the hairs to stay in place, and gave them some extra subtle definition. Brushing out your brows is something I always forget to do, but as the brush is attached to the end of the pencil I shall forget no longer! Two-in-one products are a bit of a weakness of mine, and this was no exception.
I got Tiz to take a couple of before and after photos for me, so you can see the difference the Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil made to my eyebrows!
I’m really happy with the results! It’s actually amazing how much of a difference filled in eyebrows make to your overall look – I know mine are very subtle compared to most, but I can really notice a difference in them. What do you think? The Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil retails for £16.50, which is pricey but worth it if brows are your thing. I have been using for the past couple of days too, and it’s become somewhat of a beauty favourite!
