What does every make up brush-owning beauty lover need? A good brush cleanser, of course! Cleaning your make up brushes is a chore without a doubt, and I’m always on the look out for great cleaning solutions for my beloved tools – many of which are actually from Real Techniques! Today I wanted to review the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel, which I picked up from Boots for £7.99 a few days ago. I’ve already given my brushes a good once over with the cleanser, and have a few things to report back on!
First things first, let me say that I am a big fan of both Real Techniques and Sam & Nic Chapman. I’ve met them in the past (at the Gleam Halloween Parties) and they’re awesome people – the products they’ve put out onto the market with Real Techniques have been brilliant. I had very high expectations for this product, as none of their brushes have ever let me down.
I decided to try it out on not only my Real Techniques brushes but a few others too – I thought it would make a fairer test and allow me to see how versatile the product is. I first wet the bristles of each brush in warm water, applied a squeeze of the gel to my palm and worked it into the brush. I used both my fingers to massage in the product, and also whizzed it around in my palm too (everyone has a slightly different way of doing this!)
I could see the old remnants of foundation and eyeshadow soaking away from the bristles of my brushes almost immediately. I could tell that they were becoming clean very quickly, though I did notice that the cleanser didn’t remove all of the colour stains – though my stippling brush was clearly clean afterwards, there was still a tinge of colour to the once-white tips. I could totally get past this on inspecting just how refreshed my brushes felt, and I left them to dry overnight to see the finished results!
I was pleasantly surprised when I had a good look at my cleaned brushes the next day – they felt totally fresh, with only a slight texture left on them which didn’t affect the application of my make up whatsoever. If anything, it could have been that I was just feeling the pure, make up-free bristles again instead of the film that many brush cleansers tend to leave behind. The packaging of the product claims to help improve brush performance, and it certainly made me feel that little more confident getting to work with mine – I knew that there’d be no residue of old eyeshadow shades left lurking in the bristles, and I went to town creating my daily eye look!
I did find myself getting through quite a bit of product for just one brush, so I think I need to figure out how to work with it a little more conservatively (the palm method tends to mean you use more than you need) but that’s just a little something for me to work out. All in all, I’m more than happy with my latest beauty purchase and can’t wait to use it more! I am due to do a HUGE brush cleaning session with my entire collection, not just my daily essentials, and the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel will help me along the way!
Have you tried it out yet? Let me know what you think!
