I have a feeling this review is going to be a little controversial, in the sense that I don’t think many people will agree with me. But you know what? I’m a free and wild bird, and your conformist cage shall not, erm, cage me. So there.
I tried out the much-hyped Joico K-Pak Revitaluxe Restorative Treatment a few days ago. I think I’ve had it hanging around for a little while – my first thought was that I received it in a Glossybox but I don’t think I did. I must learn to keep a better handle on the origins of PR samples.
It looks so scientific! I feel like I need a PhD to even open the box. But throwing caution (and my journalism degree) to the wind, I whipped it out of its packaging and took a look at the bottle itself.
From what I could gather, the treatment was to be used in the same way as a conditioner – applied to clean hair for 3-4 minutes then thoroughly rinsed. Easy! I did love the simplicity of it in that sense. I can’t be doing with deep or leave-in conditioners that prolong the hair-washing experience – mine takes long enough as it is, thanks very much!
The product claims to actively repair, restore, protect and hydrate the hair, which all sounds lovely jubbly. I don’t have particularly damaged hair (although I curled the ends so much over Christmas that I don’t know how it hasn’t become frazzled) but still wanted to give it a fair run. I imagined that if it can work wonders on damaged hair, it would make mine feel like a silk scarf!
I hopped into the shower and used the product as directed. It had a bit of a funky smell but decided to ignore that – after all, it’s meant to be working wonders, it’s allowed to be a bit smelly! I rinsed as instructed and blow dried my hair.
My verdict? Yeah, it’s alright. I’m afraid I can’t gush about it like so many other reviews have, because I thought it was just OK. My hair didn’t feel particularly soft afterwards, no more so than with any other good quality conditioner I’ve used, and I didn’t notice any major differences. For the £13-ish price tag, I expected something pretty special but for me it just didn’t deliver.
Have you had a different experience with the Joico K-Pak Revitaluxe Restorative Treatment? Let me know!
