Something I don’t often talk about is my total love for dark lipstick – probably because I don’t wear it very often! Being blonde, it is sometimes tricky to get away with a deep berry or wine lip shade, but I think I may have found one that looks just right.
Trust my beloved Smashbox to come up with the shade! It is called Black Cherry, from the Fade To Black collection, and when they sent it to me to try out, I couldn’t get it out of the packaging quick enough.
I’m determined to make the most of this lipstick over the winter – I think it would look adorable with a slick of black eyeliner and a fluffy Xmas jumper! But first things first: let’s take a look at how it performed.
To start, the packaging is beyond beautiful. As it is from the Fade To Black collection, it has the standard black-into-deep fuchsia tube which gives off an air of total glamour. It’s the kind of lipstick you’d pull out of your bag and someone would instantly ask you what it was/where it was from/how they can get one too.
Here’s how it looked on the lips!
I took the above photo without a lipliner (to get a true representation of the colour) and was happy to note that there was little movement of the product in terms of feathering/bleeding. The formula felt moisturising without being slippery (a definite no-no for a bold colour) and didn’t leave my lips dry once I took it off.
It took a couple of coats to get the colour just how I liked it, but that’s fine by me – it means that shade is build-able and not too thick. I also loved the very subtle shine the lipstick left, as deep matte shades aren’t always my favourite thing. Oh Smashbox, you’ve gone and got me all obsessed once again!
The lipstick costs £15.50 from larger Boots stores, and from the Smashbox website.
Which lip shade will you be reaching for over Christmas?
