Review: Smashbox Fade To Black Fade Out Palette

It’s no secret that Smashbox is one of my favourite make up brands in the world – I never pass up an opportunity to try out their products and end up loving them every time. When they kindly sent me the new Fade To Black Palette in Fade Out, it was out of the box and being tried out in record time!

First impressions – the packaging is BEAUTIFUL. I mean, totally and utterly stunning. Purple and black together is always good, but when it’s on such a sleek looking palette it is just heavenly. Take a look!

It’s the kind of palette you’d end up reaching for just to have a little stroke of (just me?!). I had already checked out the eyeshadow shades online, but was super excited to see them in person. The idea is that they either ‘Fade In’ or ‘Fade Out’ to black, an idea I love as I’m the queen of a smokey eye.

I was so excited to see that the extremes of the shades were truly that. The black it bold with tiny flecks of glitter (that can never be a bad thing in my book1) and the two lightest shades are beautifully creamy-looking. As for the in-between ones – I’m not the biggest fan of general, neutral eyes, but they are shades I can actually imagine myself using. For example, I would combine the third from the left with the deep purple shade for a lovely winter eye look.

Unfortunately the swatches didn’t photograph well – they were so much bolder in real life! The two lightest shades are actually towards the left there, they were beautiful in person. When I first started swatching the shadows seemed slightly chalky, but when I blended them they were simply amazing. I tested them on my lids a little later on and even without a primer they stayed put – I’m so excited to create a full look with the palette very soon!

The accompanying brush is actually fab too – perfect for a sweep of colour across the lids. I will personally use it for the light shades when I’m using them as a base. All in all, the palette retails for £32, which is in line with others of a similar quality. Check out my Instagram feed for a look I created using Fade Out!

Have you tried any of the Smashbox Fade To Black products?
