Selfridges Summer Beauty Event (23rd May 2013)

I’ve been a busy blogging bee this week! Last night I was invited to the Selfridges Summer Beauty Event at the Trafford Centre, which was a great opportunity to check out the new summer collections from the biggest and best beauty brands.

The event was packed, and the lovely Zoe from The London Lipgloss was doing an awesome job as the event DJ! It was great to finally meet her, as I adore her blog.

I’m going to launch into talking about the brands I chatted to, and will give a brief overview of the event itself towards the bottom of this post. Let’s start with the wonderful Illamasqua!

Illamasqua Paranormal

When I fist arrived at the counter, the lovely Leena greeted me and talked me through their new Paranormal Collection. The product that really stood out to me was the Paranormal Palette you can see above – the colours are super vibrant and when teamed with the Precision Liner (in the tub) they pop beautifully.

Leena spruced up my smokey eye with dashes of the green and purple shadows, and here was the result!

I wish I could explain how much more vibrant the colours looked in person! When I got home, the first thing Tiz said was “your eyes look like a peacock!”. He meant it as a compliment, I felt that the mission had been accomplished.

I then wandered over to the Nails Inc stand, where I spotted these glittery beauties!

The sets are part of their Spring Summer 2013 collection, and are super fun! The top set is in Emerald (which made me think of the Wizard of Oz!) and the bottom one is in Neon. The lovely nail artist showed me how the pink glitter from Neon worked:

You first apply the white base coat, then dip your nail into the glitter. A simple idea, but really cute and effective!

I also noticed a set of their Spring Summer polishes, which are very pastel-oriented:

My next stop was at the Bobbi Brown counter, where the make up artist gave me a whistle stop tour of all their new collections and lines. It all went too fast for me to remember specifics, but here are some photos of what’s new.

This is the Summer Chic Sea Pearls Collection, featuring a products like the limited edition Shimmer Brick Eye Palette packed full of pastels, new lipgloss shades and their BB Cream.

I also took a sneak peek at their Bikinis Optional Nude Beach Collection, which includes things like their Face and Body Bronzing Duo, Tube Tint and Sheer Color Cheek Tint:

Then we came across their new Sheer Lip Colors, which have replaced the Lip Treatment Shine products. Here are the gorgeous new shades!

I then moved on over to the MAC counter, where the make up artist was super helpful and shared details of their latest collections. Again, I’ll give you an overview of the ones I looked at.

This is the Baking Beauties collection, which looks good enough to eat! It’s full of pastel and candy shades, and was visually stunning:

Then was the hugely sold-out In Extra Dimension collection, which features an array of bronzers and shadows:

Finally came the Temperature Rising collection, which is full of gorgeous shimmering eyeshadows and lip glosses, as well as bronzing shades which are just off the photo. It is ideal for summer!

Then, unfortunately, things turned a little sour. If you follow me on Twitter you’ll have heard about this. I don’t want to say too much and bring negativity to the table, but there was some miscommunication at Selfridges which involved me being told that I absolutely could take photos for my blog, then being quite bluntly and rudely told off for doing so by another staff member. It was really quite embarrassing, and I left the event on a total downer.

Saying that, Selfridges replied to my tweet about it swiftly and I’m in communication with them to make sure it doesn’t happen to other bloggers in the future. After all, what we’re trying to do is bring you all the latest about their brands and store.

Let me know what you think of the collections I have mentioned – will you be trying out any of the products?

Stay Creative,

Chyaz xox
