I never really feel fully dressed without perfume – I usually stick to Lacoste’s Touch of Pink for the daytime and Vivienne Westwood’s Let It Rock for a night out. However, I’m always open to new smells (however weird that sounds), and was thrilled when my boyfriend’s sister and brother-in-law gave me a new perfume set for Christmas last year – the Calvin Klein Deluxe Travel Set – Fragrances for Women.
The set contains 5 of the top Calvin Klein women’s fragrances – Euphoria, Eternity, Eternity Moment, Obsession and Secret Obsession.
As odd as it seems to do a perfume review (after all, you can’t smell them through your computer!) I am going to do my best to provide you with a description and my opinion on each individual fragrance. Enjoy!
This funny-shaped bottle looks like its contents would smell spicy, fiery and somewhat smoky – and that presumption would be correct! The scent is difficult to describe – there are certainly hints of spice, but there is a sweet undertone that creeps through, balancing out the tougher edge. It’s the kind of perfume you would have to wear in moderation – a little goes a long way. The scent kind of makes me feel warm and fuzzy – a winter fragrance in my opinion!
This perfume contrasts with the previous one entirely – instead of deep, rich scents, this is light, airy and completely screams ‘summer’! It is much more subtle, sweeter and has a hint of fruitiness about it, although it is hard to put your finger on which fruit. This is the kind of perfume I would wear on a summer holiday, or even just for a summer BBQ or party. It’s probably my favourite out of the set.
Presumably as a tribute to its name, the Secret Obsession fragrance does not actually have its name printed on the bottle, which confused me a bit at first! Once the name was figured out, I got round to deciphering the smell. It is reminiscent of Obsession, only somehow faded – it is much softer and more subtle, and altogether more pleasant to my particular nostrils!! There is definitely a hint of orange in the perfume, that is apparent as soon as you smell it. Again, I see this as a winter fragrance, but one that wouldn’t be overpowering.
If I said a perfume smelt like wine, would it put you off? This is not my intention – Euphoria smells like a sweet, expensive white wine, and I LOVE it. It is probably one of the most unique-smelling perfumes I’ve ever come across, and it’s kind of addictive. I can imagine wearing it to a nice dinner, and can imagine being complimented due to how unusual it is. In fact, I’m tempted to put a little on now…
This particular fragrance is a difficult one to pin down to a single description – there seems to be a lot going on with it! That is purely in a good way though. It is a very feminine smell, and reminds me of those sophisticated ladies who brush past you in a department store and you catch a whiff of their perfume. It smells classic, but has a modern edge to it – almost sweet and sour (but don’t go pouring it over your Chinese takeaway!)
All in all, I adore this perfume set. It’s fantastic for those who like a change, and don’t want to set their hearts on just one fragrance for all occasions.
Right, I’m off to give my nostrils a rest! (I nearly wrote ‘nosebuds’, but that is definetely not a word.)
