Review: Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder

There are some beauty products that I’ve always avoided as I wasn’t sure how to work with them. One of those has been loose powder – I’ve always favoured pressed as it just seemed so much easier to use! But when I received the Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder to try out, I really wanted to give it a good go!

The packaging of the powder – as with most of the Smashbox products – is super sleek. I love that they keep things monochrome and fuss-free!

Whilst working with the Smashbox make up artist Janine Bird, she showed me an awesome way of applying the powder. You know when you buy a set of make up brushes, and there’s always that big fan brush that you never know what to do with? Well, now you do! It is perfect for applying this powder.

Now although the powder is white (which freaked me out a little at first!) it is entirely transparent on the skin. It leaves a smooth, matte finish and, as it is a HD product, looks incredible in photographs and on videos.

Here’s one of the photos I took from my latest make up tutorial, after I had used the powder to set my make up:

I love how it works with your own skin tone to make it glow – I couldn’t imagine using another powder when I’m filming a video!

For every day life, I don’t think I’d choose the Smashbox powder as my first choice – on my very dry skin, it can look a little cakey – however, I’ve only really tried it in what I call “on-camera quantities” (i.e. more than you’d ordinarily wear) so perhaps it would work well for me if I used it a little more sparingly.

The Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder retails for £18 from Boots – it is certainly a higher-end product, but it does work incredibly well.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the powder!

Stay Creative,
