This might sound like a bit of a make up sin, but I’m not too big on concealer – obviously, if I’m looking a little tired or have blemishes then it’s my best friend, but on an average make-up-wearing day I don’t tend to use a lot of it.
I think part of the reason for this is that I haven’t really found my ideal shade, and when I use it it tends to look a bit cakey and too dark. However, I’m always open to new solutions…which is why I was excited to try the bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer that the company kindly sent me.
As many of you will know, my general make up philosophy is ‘enhance rather than cover up’ – this is the reason why I only tend to use a little of whatever products I have at hand. I was happy to find that this concealer is quite pigmented and full-coverage, so I could just use a tiny bit to get the job done.
The shade I have is Light 2 – it is a yellow-toned pale shade, which matches with my foundation (and skin, obviously!). It has a super creamy consistency and applies very smoothly – I like to apply concealer with a brush, and it worked very nicely into the skin without looking like it was just sitting on top of it (never a good look!)
I’m such a bad beauty blogger…I can never resist trying products out before I have a chance to photograph them! Through my brush marks, I hope you can see the shade of the concealer properly. If I could make one tiny adjustment to the product, I would probably make the shade a little bit lighter – but that is entirely a personal preference for my skin tone!
After applying just a little bit of the product under one eye, his is how it looked:
I feel that it just evened things out, which is what a concealer is meant to do! If I had applied more I know that it would have covered my dark circles completely, but I don’t always like that ‘totally the same shade’ look – light concealer is the way forward for me.
What I do absolutely love to do, however, is to add another product into the mix. You may have seen my review of the bareMinerals Well-Rested Face and Eye Brightener – I love to use the Brightener over the top of the concealer under the eyes. It just gives an extra flow and really lightens up the area. As a combo, these products are a total winner for me.
The bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer retails at £21 – it is definitely a higher-end product, but one that I think is worth the investment. I would recommend visiting your local bareMinerals counter to get colour-matched though, as this is really important in getting the best concealer coverage possible!
