The utter awesomeness of foundation primers was actually lost on me for a long time – the first one I used was the Benefit POREfessional, which I had stuck with until just a week ago.
It was disappointing to find that the product wasn’t doing great things for my skin, and actually making my break out; I knew that I needed to make a switch, and little did I know that that opportunity was just around the corner!
When I went to the Smashbox cosmetics event last Friday, one of the goodies they kindly gave me was the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer – an oil-free base which can be applied to either clean or moisturised skin.
I have super dry skin, so have to use a moisturiser under a primer – something I instantly loved about this product is that it is oil-free, which eliminates the shine you can sometimes get from a moisturiser under foundation.
Although the primer looks white in the tube, it is entirely colourless when applied to the face. It has no sticky or flaky residue, which would irritate me so much.
I also adore that Smashbox boldly state that their products are Cruelty Free – this is a huge plus point for me, as I am a massive animal lover!
Something that really surprised me about using the primer is that not only did it make my foundation apply SO much smoother, but it made it feel silkier on this skin! I swear this is some kind of magic product…
But I’ve saved the best thing about it until last – I swear that it has actually improved the condition of my skin!! Each time I’ve worn it and taken my make up off at the end of the day, it is as though the primer has acted as a barrier from the foundation – my skin looks as if I’ve just freshly cleansed and moisturised.
Here’s a quick photo of my after wearing the primer under my foundation all day – I had literally no light left that day so please excuse my appearance!
It is safe to say I am incredibly impressed with this product, and it has become my go-to primer. It retails for £25 from Boots, which is pricey but entirely worth it for what it does. I can’t imagine wearing my foundation without it again!
Have you tried this, or any other of Smashbox’s primers (they have 15 all-in-all!)?
