Brittanylovex is one of the loveliest and most exciting Beauty Bloggers in the UK, and I am really happy to present my interview with her! It’s a great way to get to know her a bit more, and find a fantastic new blog to read. Brittany also interviewed me for her blog – read that interview HERE.
Location: Berkshire, United Kingdom
What inspired you to start blogging?
I used to watch SO many Beauty Gurus on Youtube, and I read a million and one blogs! I loved it! One day, I realised that as much as I loved to only read blogs, I would really like to maybe begin my own too. I knew I had enough knowledge about the topics to do so, and more importantly I was so excited to think “maybe I could help others too in regards to beauty, fashion & fitness!” And off I went, and here I am…Hello 🙂
Do you have a blogging schedule or do you prefer to be spontaneous?
Oh! I’m always completely spontaneous! The only posts I ‘plan’ so to speak are my Monthly Favourites! Other than that I always go on a whim and hope for the best in regards to my blog posts. Hopefully everyone still enjoys the read, even though there hasn’t been much preparation behind them haha!
Tell us three random facts about yourself.
– I’m actually South African, I was born and lived there up until a few years ago. However, my accent has gone and everyone mistakes me for being a little English Rose!
– I’m OBSESSED with cats, like you have no idea. I know for a hard fact that I will indeed be The Crazy Cat Lady, who lives on top of a hill, in a little cottage, with here 100 fellow fluff-ball companions!
– I’ve been singing for years, it’s my greatest passion other than blogging! Maybe one day I might even start up my own singing Youtube channel, like you Chyaz! 😉
Which make up products could you not live without?
Foundation and mascara. I would probably die a miserable death without them. I have quite a lot of discolouration and REALLY rosy cheeks. I hate both. Most people I know look stunning with a bit of colour in their cheeks, but me? I look like a tomato – Not pretty! So foundation has been my life saver for years and years. And mascara? Who doesn’t love mascara? It’s perfect for adding definition, making you look bold and awake and of course makes your eyes POP!
Which fellow bloggers inspire you most?
This is SUCH a tough question, because I’m only really inspired by people who are extremely kind at heart. If someone is successful, but they’re not a very nice person on the inside – I’m far from inspired. But most bloggers I have come across are SO kind, helpful and genuinely lovely girls. Saying this, one that stands out in particular for me is Adrienne at Adrienne Adore’s – AND YOU of course, you’re one of the nicest girls I have EVER spoken to!
Are your family and friends supportive of your blogging hobby?
My family don’t really take much notice to be honest, nor do my friends! So I suppose they’re pretty neutral going on the subject. However, my boyfriend is extremely supportive. It’s odd – If I don’t write up a post for a while, he will be sure to tell me off. He’s a big fan of my blogging – Bless him!
What do people tell you is your best trait?
People think that I’m very caring – Sometimes maybe over caring haha. I’m the kind of girl who a lot of people come to with their problems! And I’m more than happy with that. Helping someone else is the best feeling in the entire world!
Do you have any bad habits?
Haha, I have a million! I bite my nails (well, I used to! I recently just stopped), I over-analyse everything, I tend to think “If something bad will go wrong, it probably will”. I can also be fairly inpatient. But over all, I’m ridiculously happy so I think that can erase some of my bad habits…I hope so anyway! Haha
My hair is always a mess! And not usually in a good way. Therefore I’d probably choose the perfect make-up – People are too used to seeing me with rubbish hair haha.
What advice would you give to beauty bloggers who have just started up?
Definitely be yourself! Take inspiration from others, but never try to be like anyone else. There are SO many beauty bloggers, that a lot of the time what makes each of us unique is our personality that shines through our writing – I think it’s extremely important!
I’d also say that don’t be put down if you don’t get a lot of followers straight away, these things take time and you will TOTALLY get there. A lot of people will constantly read your blog, but not follow/subscribe. Remember to have a strong and versatile content, but most importantly that you are confident with everything that you write!
Why do you think your blog is doing so well in the competitive blogging world?
It is? Haha. News to me! But thank you! I have absolutely no idea. I do have over 1000 followers and I’m absolutely baffled and grateful by this. I never thought in the beginning that I would EVER reach this many followers. I never thought that this many people would be interested in what I have to say! In the beginning, I was maybe gaining 2 followers a week – If that! Then it suddenly sky-rocketed for a while. I think it helps that you have a close group of online blogging friends who can recommend you to others. It also has helped me by getting Twitter, that’s where most of my traffic has come from. However, I hardly post much about my blog, I just have my blog link on my Twitter profile! Hosting giveaways always helps gain followers too – Everyone likes prizes! I don’t there there is a particular reason why I’ve managed to get where I am. I’ve just taken each blogging day and enjoyed it – Without any expectations
Name three of your favourite songs in the world.
Oh gosh, this is so tough! Hmmm! I’d probably have to go with:
Whitney Duncan – Skinny Dippin’
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Ain’t No Easy Way
Lisa Loeb – How
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’m not exactly sure if others would call them talents! But I’m quite confident in my singing, acting, writing, make-up and fine art. I’m a very creative person, and am always trying to do better in the things I love. I have come quite a long way with these above hobbies to hopefully be at the point to call them ‘talents!’ 🙂
How would you describe your style sense?
I honestly don’t know how to. I hardly ever stick to one thing, however as the seasons differ so do my style sense…Dramatically!
In the Winter & Autumn I always seem to opt for REALLY sophisticated stuff, you know the high-waisted trousers, high heals, long black Duffel coats etc.
In the Spring and Summer, I seem to switch between vintage & cowgirl styles, by wearing Levi shorts, casual shirts, vintage shirts, long vest tops, cowboy boots, and lots and lots of accessories!
How do you deal with any negativity towards your blog/opinions in posts?
I take a lot of it with a pinch of salt, unless it’s constructive! I LOVE constrictive criticism, It’s so helpful and so important. Considering you’re mostly writing for others, what others have to say back always should be noted, so you can implement that in your next post. However, there will always be a small selection of people who feel the need to be downright nasty! That is something that I will NOT listen to. I completely disregard it. Sure, I sometimes get upset, but these things will be said EVERYWHERE. Even in your normal day to day life. No matter where you go, there will be someone, somewhere, who will try knock you down. The key is to not listen to someone who has that many insecurities that they have to pick on others.
What do you love most about being a blogger?
How many wonderful people I have met and get to interact with! I absolutely love it. I love chatting to everyone on Twitter and I LOVE receiving and replying to the comments left on my blog posts. It’s an amazing feeling, and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world!
Seriously, this online community is so special. Everyone is so kind, helpful and utterly hilarious! It’s definitely something we should all be proud of, and I’m certainly proud to be apart of it!
Thank you Brittany! Keep doing what you’re doing, we love you!
