MUA Cosmetics were (an still are) a make up revolution when they were first released in Superdrug. Beauty YouTubers, bloggers and customers alike couldn’t believe the value and quality of the products, which are all sold for £1. I stocked up on eyeshadows and eyeliners, and a couple of lipsticks, and have mentioned many of the products in my videos. I have decided to review one of my favourite MUA products, the Liquid Eyeliner in Shade 5 (Black).
I will review it in little categories (I like to feel organised!) – Application, Brush, Packaging, Finish and Removal.
The application of the product is generally good – the consistency does tend to be a little watery, but it isn’t too much of a problem once you learn how to work with it. I would say that the product requires two/three coats to get a full, even line. Under the ‘Finish’ heading, I’ll post a couple of pictures so you can see the comparison between one coat and three.
This is by far the best thing about the product – the brush is quite stiff but, as an entirety, is flexible. This means that the application can be precise and the thickness can be varied. If higher end brands adopted a similar brush, their products would be improved ten-fold. This is no exaggeration!
The packaging is simple and quite elegant, with the shape being fairly typical of a liquid eyeliner. The one pictures is actually a re-purchase; the original one I owned, after much wear and tear, ended up with the lid not quite fitting onto the bottle properly. However, by that time I’d pretty much used the product up, so it was no great loss. For £1, it really is fantastic.
Here is my (slightly dodgy) application of just one coat of the eyeliner:
As you can see, the watery-ness of the product is quite apparent after just the one coat. It looks a little patchy, but with a couple more coats, the difference is massive:
As you can see, the line is thicker and much more opaque. The great thing is that there is no worry of running out, as the re-purchase price is SO reasonable.
I use the Simple Eye Make Up Remover Pads to take off my liquid eyeliner and shadows, and they worked well removing this. When it gets wet, the dried eyeliner tends to crumble off, but as you’re removing it, it really doesn’t matter. I have encountered eyeliners which DO NOT budge, and I’ve ended up with sore, red eyes. Not a good look! This comes off well, but not too easily that it is unreliable.
All in all, the MUA Liquid Eyeliner in Shade 5 Black is a great product, great value and well worth a buy!
