Weight Loss Wednesdays: Week #1

Who knew weight loss and general fitness enhancing could be so…fun? I have honestly had the best first week of my ‘healthy life overhaul’ that I could have wished for.

I have been going to the gym to do both cardio, resistance and swimming! When I was younger I swum for my county, and haven’t really do much since. I went yesterday and absolutely LOVED it  – I’m aiming to go once a week, which I’m going to look forward to so much.

I’ve probably been to the gym 3 times since last Wednesday, and have been doing mostly cardio (running machine, rowing machine, cross trainer, bike) mixed with some light weights too. My mum actually came with me one of the days (she usually goes to gym classes but came on to the gym floor instead) and it was fantastic to have a gym buddy.

I’m really seeing the benefit of mixing it up with exercise. After swimming yesterday, muscles are aching that I didn’t even know I had! I’m going to go to a couple of classes next week too to really get some variety.

Diet is the part of a, well, diet that I find most difficult. I love food! But what I’ve found this week is that I’ve genuinely been enjoying healthier options.

For example, instead of crisps I’ve been LOVING these little beauties:

Snack a Jacks Cheeky Chutney

They taste amazing and the bag contains only 88 calories. 88! I usually have a bag after the gym and it just perks me up.

I’ve also discovered the best Special K bars that have ever been released:

Special K Chewy Delight Bars

They’re my favourite cereal bar at the moment! I like one of these if I’m having an energy lull, but what I’ve really been trying to eat is just lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Berries, apples, carrot sticks, grapes…I love and adore fruit, and it’s been a pleasure to incorporate it more into my diet.

For meals, I’ve been sticking to high-fibre cereal for breakfast, crumpets (they are SO low in calories, fat…basically everything!) or Weight Watches pitta breads for lunch and a healthy, balanced dinner. This has typically included vegetables in a low-fat sauce with rice, or a hearty salad.

I’ve been tempted a couple of times by sweet stuff, but haven’t struggled too much to be honest. I’m just a little bit proud of myself about that…

So, it’s the moment of truth…

Weekly weight loss: 4 lbs ** Total weight loss: 4 lbs

Woo hoo! I lost 4 pounds this week, and I’m so pleased – I know I’ve done it in a sensible, healthy way and I feel fantastic. It has really motivated me for the week ahead!

Stay Creative,

Chyaz xox

Congratulations! It doesn’t sound a lot when you put it like that but you aren’t really aiming to lose that much and you have already lost about 15% of your goal (if I have calculated it right, ha). A really good breakfast is a piece of fruit and a portion of natural yogurt – it gets to feel like a treat every breakfast time when you get used to it and yogurt has so many benefits. Have you tried making vegetable soup? A small bowl for dinner really fills you up. Sorry if this was no help; just tried to give you some meals I eat regularly to balance things out amd I stay slim providing I am careful.

Wow! Go you! It sounds like you’re doing it the literally perfect way! 4lbs is an amazing start and even if it slows a little in coming weeks you know that this is going to work for your body! When I was diagnosed Gluten intolerant my biggest :'( was how I couldn’t eat special K bars anymore! So delish.

Congratulation to your first loss of 4 pounds! That´s amazing.

In the last half year i lost 40 kg and i try to loose the last 10 kg now to reach my ideal weight. So I think we have the same goal now 😉

I hope you eat enough for your sport program. It´s important to eat that much as your body needs to be healthy.
I write this, because as i started my weight-loss-marathon many people suggest me to eat very tiny portions or to do a only shakes diet. But i wanted to do something that can be done for the rest of my life. It´s not very clever to do a diet for maybe 3 or 4 weeks, and then to eat like before. So I decided to count calories. I eat every day between 1600 an 1800 cal and I´m very fine. I use an online calories counter, for my smartphone a calories counter app – that makes it a lot easier.

So i hope you eat the right calories for your weight and height. But it sounds like you doing it well.
I just want to let you know, that the weight loss gets slower soon, just stay by your programm and don´t try to eat less and less. 😉

    I wish you good luck!

Hey, congratulations for losing those 4 pounds, it’s a really nice start and when you’re doing it the healthy way it feels just amazing!

I hope you know that you need to do some physical activity every day for at least 30 minutes, so try to work outside the gym too, I promise this will help the results come even faster.

After losing the last 13 pounds I wanted to lose I started jogging and doing some workouts at home. If you want you can try Tiffany Rothe workouts on YouTube. I find them really fun, I wouldn’t do them otherwise.

I really get some helpful tips when I watch your videos, so I hope I could help you a little as well 🙂

Keep up the great work and try doing some work outside the gym as well!

    Hi Chyaz!
When I started loosing weight, I noticed the same thing- exercising was fun and awesome, sticking to a diet- not so much. After a while I noticed that sticking to a strict diet just wouldn’t work for me, so I stopped purposely avoiding all the “bad stuff”. I would eat chocolate once a week, so it wouldn’t feel so awful and like something that I have to force. I also started eating a full plate of food. I didn’t cut down my portion size, but I would fill at least half of my plate with salad, 1/4 protein and 1/4 with rice, pasta or potatoes. I’d eat a plate of good, home made food twice a day and breakfast, and I’d stay feeling full all day long. Cutting down portion sizes or simply eating salads is ridiculous- you just can’t stick to that in the long run, and you will easily give in to the cravings. Eating your stomach full of good, healthy food that you like is the key! Don’t automatically say no to something that you want that may not be the best option (..for me it’s chocolate) but decide after you’ve had your stomach full!
For me it was also a lot easier to start exercising more rather than eating less, and so I would just run everyday for at least 30 minutes, and go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. If it’s possible, I’d also recommend you to get an exercise program done by a professional. It may be a bit pricy but it truly is worth it.
Probably the most obvious, but also one of the best things is to drink a lot of water. I literally drink so much water every day, and it truly is working!
Ugh, sorry for the long post, but I hope that these tips will help you! I’ve personally lost 14 kg’s – and i wasn’t that fat to beging with – since February simply by following these steps, and NOT STARVING MYSELF (which, by the way is one of the worst things you can do), which I’m totally amazed by!
I hope that your work will be succesfull and that you’ll have a good autumn!
