Sitting in my room in a Northern town not all that far from Liverpool, I heard a new phrase which threw me a little at first – ‘Scouse Brow’. Now, using my superb powers of deduction, I guessed that this phrase had something to do with both Liverpool and, you guessed it, eyebrows. I also had a feeling that it had originated as a result of the programme ‘Desperate Scousewives’. I turned out to be right on all counts!
From my extensive research (!) I can confirm that the ‘Scouse Brow’ consists of a normal eyebrow which has been made to look thick, bushy and, well, a little bit silly really.
This photos is taken from the first episode of Desperate Scousewives, where one of the ‘wives, Jodie, gave a model a Scouse-ilicous makeover:
I would like to defend Liverpool for a moment – living relatively close to the city, I know that this is NOT the ‘typical’ look for a Liverpudlian lady. One of my gorgeous housemates is also from the ‘Pool, and has perfectly lovely and normal eyebrows.
There’s nothing wrong with having nice full brows, but this seems to be a step too far. I’m sure that some of the strange hype around the Scouse Brow is somewhat of a clever scheme to get people chatting about the show – it worked for Vajazzling and The Only Way is Essex!
I have to admit that I’m not an avid watcher of the show, but I am quite intrigued about it. To be fair, I’d probably spend most of the time staring/marvelling at the eyebrows on show!
Have you ever seen a Scouse Brow in real life? (I actually giggled a bit as I typed that…as though they have a life of their own!)
