Review: Illamasqua Freak Perfume

I’m on a bit of a roll with the perfume reviews this week, but there are just so many to shout about this time of year! The fragrance I am reviewing today is the début scent by Illamsaqua – Freak.

This is actually a little sample that I was given in the brand new Leeds Illamasqua store (the guy who works there is SO lovely!) when I popped in to purchase the Skin Base.

One thing I love and adore about Illamsaqua is the effort they put into the presentation of their products – even a little sample like this! They even include a run-down of the perfume’s composition:

So, the key scents which make up Freak are: Black Davana, Opium Flower, Belladonna, Poison  Hemlock, Datura, Queen of the Night, Frankincense, Oud and Myrrh. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea what any of those components smell like on their own, but I do know one thing: they work together like a charm!

I was told in the store that this is a unisex perfume – I would wholeheartedly agree with that. There is a side of femininity to it but it absolutely wouldn’t seem out of place being worn by a man. It is, in many ways, a strange scent, but it completely works. I would guess that that was Illamasqua’s aim!

The scent is quite rich – I would personally wear it in the evening, perhaps even on a night out. There is something quite dark about it – again, something that Illamasqua undoubtedly wanted to achieve! Top marks all round for Freak.

Have you smelt or bought Freak? What did you think?
