Review: OPI Original Nail Envy

As many of you will know, I’m on a lifelong mission to get strong, long and healthy nails. I’ve tried quite a few different nail strengthening polishes, which have mostly been good, but I’ve always felt there was a little something missing. I decided to turn to Twitter and ask fellow beauty lovers for their recommendations. The awesome Liz from CharityChic recommended the OPI Original Nail Envy, and I had to try it!

OPI Original Nail Envy Nail Strengthener packaging

I’m a huge OPI fan in general, so I had high hopes for this product. The instructions were quite specific – apply to clean nails. Then apply every other day for a week. When the week is up, take everything off and start again!

When I first looked for the product, I had a little ‘eek’ moment when I saw the price – around £18! I knew for that much it had to be an excellent product to justify the price. Did it live up to expectations?

In a word: yes! I was so reluctant to show you the product on my nails – if you look closely, can you see that they’re a strange green colour at the tips? That’ll teach me to apply green polish without a base coat!! Never again! It’s taking forever to grow out…ugh!

Touch wood, I haven’t had so much as a flake come off my nails since I’ve been wearing Nail Envy. I usually break a nail per day when they’re bare, so this is an incredibly improvement! My nails just feel much stronger, harder and more resilient.

The only small downside to the product is the strong smell – but, if it works, I’m happy to brush over that one. I do believe I’ve found my holy grail nail strengthener!

Which nail strengthening product do you swear by? Let me know!

Stay Creative,

I ahve used it for 2 years now, don´t actually use it as stated, but I use it as a badecoat whenever I paint my nails which is not so often. My nails are quite strong, I should switch to maintenance nail envy, but I am too lazy and that is why sometimes they break – they have lost some flexibility. Oh well I don´t mind, because every few weeks I have to cut them off anyway, because of my studies.

I am a big fan of this! I’ve tried a lot of strengtheners, but this is the only one that I actually feel works on my nails. Like you, though, I totally balked at the price- so I turned to my trusty ebay. I bought a bottle from the states, and even with shipping, it came to under £10, which is much more palatable!

I’ve been trying to get stronger nails too, without success. They break sooo easily, and I can’t grow them out at all. 🙁 So maybe I’ll try this sometime. 🙂

Also for the green polish stains, you should try toothpaste. I have this bright blue nail poilish that stains my nails and cuticles horribly, and I’ve figured out that alternating between nail polish remover and toothpaste a couple times when taking it off can take the stains out. I just use a cotton swab or simply my finger to scrub the nail with toothpaste. 🙂
